Brian Drye

Brian Drye (born February 25, 1975 ) an American jazz trombonist , pianist , music educator and composer who is active in the New York jazz scene .

Live and act

Drye studied at the University of Miami and at the beginning of his music career he played in the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra ( Ghost Band ) and in the backing bands of Paul Anka and The Four Tops . Since the early 2000s he has been working in Brooklyn a. a. with formations such as The Brooklyn Qawwali Party, Slavic Soul Party, Banda de los Muertos, Firewater, Nation Beat, Frank London ’s Klezmer Brass, Stew and Negro Problem . He also played with Clark Terry , John Hollenbeck , Kirk Knuffke ( Big Wig Clean Feed 2007), Andrew D'Angelo , Ches Smith , Oscar Noriega , Harris Eisenstadt ( Woodblock Prints , 2010) and Mark Helias . Drye leads the formation Bizingas and has been a member of The Four Bags since 1999 , for which he also composed; with his father Howard Drye, a baritone saxophonist , he leads the band Drye & Drye . In the field of jazz he was involved in ten recording sessions between 2000 and 2010.

In 2008, Drye founded the IBeam , an event and teaching venue in Brooklyn's Gowanus district. He also teaches at Carnegie Hall and was Director of Jazz Studies at the Jewish Community Center in Tenafly, New Jersey. He is also a faculty member of the Jazz Program at the Center for Preparatory Studies in Music at Queens College.
