Norman Bates (jazz musician)
Norman Louis Bates (born August 26, 1927 in Pocatello , Idaho , † January 29, 2004 ) was an American jazz bassist . He played with Dave Brubeck .
Live and act
Norman Bates was the brother of bassist Bob Bates . He studied classical bass and played first with Jimmy Dorsey in 1945 and with Carmen Cavallaro in 1947. Noman Bates membership in the early formations of Dave Brubeck from 1948/49 will be remembered most ; later he took the place of his brother Bob in the Brubeck band and played in his band from 1955 to 1958. After that he had his own trio in San Francisco . In addition to Brubeck, he made records with Wally Rose in 1955 and Paul Desmond .
