Norman George Meyers

Norman George Meyers (born June 29, 1930 in Buffalo , New York ) is an American mathematician who deals with analysis ( partial differential equations , calculus of variations ).

Meyers studied at the University at Buffalo with a bachelor's degree in 1952 and at Indiana University with a master's degree in 1954 and a doctorate in 1957 under David Gilbarg ( Asymptotic behavior of solutions of linear elliptic differential equations ). He was then an instructor and from 1968 professor at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis .

He is best known for the Meyers-Serrin theorem (with James Serrin , Proc. Nat. Acad. Sci., 1964).
