Norman George Lorimer Hunter (born November 23, 1899 in Sydenham , a borough of London , † February 23, 1995 in Staines , England ) was a British children's author .

Life

Hunter began his professional career as a copywriter . In the 1930s he appeared as a magician in Bournemouth and began to write on the children's book series Professor Hirnschlag (in the original: Professor Branestawm ), which was originally intended as a series for the radio. The first hardcover volumes were illustrated by Heath Robinson, while the images in the Penguin Puffin Books series published in the 1960s were by other illustrators.

During the Second World War , Hunter lived in London on a boat on the River Thames . In 1949 he moved to South Africa and stopped writing. In 1970 he returned to London, where Thames Television had just completed the eight-part television series starring Professor Branestawm. Hunter began writing again in retirement and published his last book in 1983.
