North Horr is a town in Marsabit County and has been the name of a constituency of Kenya since 1988 . The native population of the Gabbra tribe still lives largely as nomads or semi-nomads .

Constituency

The constituency of North Horr (No. 046) is 39,248 km² and includes the ward of the same name, the administrative units Balesa Ririba, Bubisa, Dukana, Illeret, Maikona and Turbi. It has a total of about 75,200 inhabitants, of which 24,530 are registered voters (as of 2012). This corresponds to a population density of 1.92 inhabitants per km².

Church mission

As early as 1964, the Italian pastor Giovanni Rocca from Alba began setting up a mission in North Horr. Since 1976 there has been a mission station of the diocese of Augsburg in the city . It is currently led by Pastors Hubert Mößmer (since 1995) and Anton Mahl (since 1996) and is part of the Marsabit diocese . In addition to missionary work , the priests there primarily conduct development aid and have already founded several schools, among other things.
