Invitation to dance of death (original title: … E venne il tempo di uccidere ) is a spaghetti western from 1968, staged by Enzo Dell'Aquila . The work passed the Italian authorities on April 5, 1968 and was released in German-speaking cinemas on October 1, 1971. On DVD, the film received the label, which is almost inevitable for this genre, as a Django invitation to the dance of death .

action

Burt Donen rides into a town on the Mexican border. The constantly drunk and shabby Sheriff Donnell, who is called by everyone "Tequila Joe", watches the constant fighting between the warring gangs of Trianas and Mulligan. His little brother was shot by a gunslinger; therefore he surrendered to the drink. When the quarrels soon lead to civilian casualties, his new deputy Burt tries in vain to appeal to Donnell's sense of honor and his earlier courage. Then Burt tries to stop the fighting himself, but fails in his mediation attempts. When Mulligan's daughter is kidnapped and later reappears injured and raped, the two parties prepare for a violent battle. Burt asks the army for help, but also takes action himself and, with the help of the sheriff, who is now finally reflecting on his old virtues, can clean up among the bandits and finally kill Mulligan, who remains alone, in a duel. Burt, it turns out, is Donnell's much younger brother.

criticism

According to genre expert Christian Keßler , the “dull” film offers the father-son constellation typical for main actor Ghidra and summarizes his opinion of the film as a “good, grim western whose synchro is relatively leisurely”. The Segnalazioni Cinematografiche, on the other hand, consider it a “very modest Western full of clichés and without ideas”.

Remarks

Raoul sings the movie song A Man Alone . The film's grossing in Italy was a meager 121 million lire .

The work was published in France as a photo novel as “Star Ciné Adventures” N ° 288 in September 1970.
