North Stack ( Welsh : Ynys Arw) is an island off Holy Island in north Wales .
The island is uninhabited. On the cliffs of Holy Island directly opposite the island there was an optical telegraph station from 1801 that could transmit signals coming from ships into the port of Holyhead via a station on the top of Holyhead Mountain . From 1854 to 1908 there was a fog warning station on the cliffs that was supposed to support the bell of the South Stack Lighthouse on South Stack with a cannon . The building of the fog warning station is now a bird watching station. The artist Phillipa Jacobs lives on the cliffs across from North Stack.
The North Stack cliffs are considered by many climbers to be the most evocative in Britain.
The Anglesey Coastal Path , part of the Wales Coast Path , passes North Stack.
