from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board (NoSHEB) was established in 1943 to promote the design, construction and operation of hydroelectric power plants in the Highlands . The driving force behind the project was the Scottish politician Tom Johnston . He headed the company between 1945 and 1959.

Emergence

The Hydro-Electric Development (Scotland) Act of 1943 nationalized all utility companies across the UK . The law provided for the establishment of the NoSHEB and the takeover of the entire assets of the energy suppliers based in northern Scotland. This takeover was completed by 1948. The company was headquartered on Rothesay Terrace in Edinburgh .

Tasks and structure

Within the NoSEB there were three main committees , the Technology Committee , the Architectural Committee and the Fisheries Committee . While the technical committee awarded contracts in the field of civil engineering and electrical engineering , the architecture committee was responsible for appearance and the fisheries committee for compliance with environmental protection regulations .

resolution

In the course of reprivatisation , North of Scotland Electricity plc was founded in 1989 , which took over the entire assets of NoSHEB. A short time later, however, the company name was changed to Scottish Hydro-Electric plc . In March 1990 the NoSHEB was finally dissolved and the headquarters of the new company moved from Edinburgh to Perth . Privatization was completed in June 1991. In 1998 there was a merger with Southern Electric plc and Scottish and Southern Energy plc was created . The company's Scottish Hydro-Electric operations are now grouped under the name Scottish Hydro-Electric .
