Northern Plains Railroad
The Northern Plains Railroad ( AAR reporting mark: NPR) is a regional railroad company in North Dakota and Minnesota . The company is based in Fordville (North Dakota) . The company is owned by Gregg Haug.
history
The company was founded in 1996 to lease and operate the routes from Dakota Junction in Minnesota to Fordville (North Dakota) and from Fordville via Devils Lake to Harlow and via Omemee to Kenmare from the Canadian Pacific Railway subsidiary Soo Line Railroad . On January 27, 2010, the section from Devils Lake to Harlow was closed.
From 2000, operations began on the Granville - Mohall railway line . This former Great Northern Railroad had been acquired by the Mohall Railroad (MRI) from the BNSF Railway . On April 6, 2001, the section between Lansford and Granville was closed because the only rail customers are located in Lansford and Mohall.
Operations on the former Northern Pacific Railroad line from Voss to Honeyford , also acquired by the Mohall Railroad from the BNSF Railway, began in spring 2001. The section from Voss to Forest River was closed on August 4, 2008.
On October 25, 2005, operations began on the leased Sarles - Lakota line . This former GN line had been acquired by the Mohall Central Railroad (MCR) from the BNSF Railway. On November 21, 2007, the 71.5-kilometer section between the two intersections with the NPR routes was closed.
Companies
In 2007 the company had around 60 employees and 34 locomotives. These are EMD GP7 , EMD GP9 , EMD GP16 , EMD GP35 and EMD SD40-2 . The route network was around 780 kilometers long at the end of 2008. In 2006 around 17,000 truckloads were transported. The most important transport goods are wheat with 63% and barley with 21%. In Kenmare and Thief River Falls there are transitions to the Canadian Pacific Railway and in Ardoch to the BNSF Railway.
In addition, the railway company offers a repair shop for freight cars and a paint shop for locomotives with the “Northern Plains Rail Services” division.
