Topographic map with Northrup Head (below) |
The Northrup Head is an ice-covered headland at the Oates Coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . As an extension of the Wilson Hills , it marks the western boundary of the entrance to Whited Inlet about 5.5 km west-southwest of Belousov Point on the northern flank of the Suworow Glacier .
The cape was mapped by surveying work by the United States Geological Survey and with the help of aerial photographs by the United States Navy from 1960 to 1963. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1970 after David A. Northrup, aeronautical engineer with the United States Navy's VX-6 squadron at McMurdo Station in 1967.
