The Northwest Gander River is an approximately 120 km long river on the island of Newfoundland, which belongs to the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador .

River course

The Northwest Gander River forms the outflow of a small nameless lake 240  m high in the center of the island, 7 km north of the Newfoundland Dog Pond . The Northwest Gander River flows in a predominantly northeastern direction to the southwestern end of Gander Lake . Major tributaries are Spruce Brook , Little Gull River , Miguels Brook, and Great Gull River . At river kilometer 58, Route 360 ( Bishop's Falls - Harbor Breton ) crosses the Northwest Gander River.

Hydrology

The Northwest Gander River drains an estimated 2,325 km². The mean discharge at the gauge at river kilometers 12.5 is 58.5 m³ / s. The highest monthly discharges usually occur in April with an average of 165 m³ / s.

Fish fauna

In the river probably following types of fish: Atlantic salmon , brook trout , lake trout , Arctic Norway and American eel and three-spined and nine-spined stickleback .
