Notocelia uddmanniana is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of Winder (Tortricidae).
features
Notocelia uddmanniana has a wingspan of 14-21 mm. The forewings have a brown-gray basic color. The butterflies are easy to identify by a chocolate brown spot on their forewings. This is located on the inner edge of the wing in the post-disk region .
distribution
Notocelia uddmanniana is native to the Palearctic . The species is found in much of Europe, including the British Isles . In the south, the distribution area extends to North Africa and Asia Minor .
Way of life
The typical habitat of Notocelia uddmanniana form brambles . The species forms one generation per year. The butterflies fly between mid-May and mid-September. They are particularly observed in June and July. Host plants of the caterpillars are blackberries and other members of the Rubus genus . The caterpillars usually hatch in late July. They feed on the leaves of young shoots during their first two caterpillar stages. At the end of August, during the third caterpillar stage, they form a web in the bushes of their host plants, in which they overwinter. The caterpillars usually become active again the following April. After reaching their final stage, the caterpillars form a web between several leaves and pupate in it.
The caterpillars of Notocelia uddmanniana can cause damage to blackberry and raspberry plantations by eating their leaves .
