Nourhan Manougian

Nourhan I. Manougian or Manookian ( Armenian Նուրհան Մանուկեան Nurhan Manugjan ; * July 22, 1948 as Boghos Manougian in Aleppo , Syrian Republic ) is the 97th Armenian Apostolic Patriarch of Jerusalem , since his election on January 24, 2013 as head of this patriarchate of the Armenian Apostolic Church .

Life

Nourhan manougian on 22 July 1948 Syrian born Aleppo. Joined the Seminary of the Catholic of Cilicia in 1961 and the Seminary of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem in 1966 , he was appointed Deacon in 1968 , Hieromonachos in 1971 and Archimandrite in 1975 . In 1998 he became number two in the Patriarchate by receiving the position of Great Preacher or Great Sexton.

After the death of Patriarch Torkom II on October 12, 2012, Nourhan was elected 97th Armenian Patriarch of Jerusalem - with 17 votes in favor, 15 for the other candidate and 2 abstentions. The Holy Land Authorities , the King of Jordan and the Israeli Government welcomed this election on April 10 and July 23, 2013, respectively.
