Nouschahr (also Noschahr or Noshahr , Persian نوشهر Nowshahr ) is a port city in the province of Māzandarān on the southern coast of the Caspian Sea , about 8 km from Chalus .

Known for its beauty and humid climate, the city is a tourist destination and the seat of several universities and colleges. During the reign of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi , the place was considered the “second capital”, as many government representatives stayed there during the summer months. The branches of industry located here are shipping , agriculture , timber processing , food processing and the steel industry . The botanical garden of Nouschahr is well known . The city also has its own airport. The private football club Shemushack Noshahr FC from Nouschahr currently plays in the Āzādegān league . The city and especially its port are the scene of the events in the shooter Battlefield 3 . A lot of money has been invested in the port. The armed forces of Iran maintain the naval academy in Nouschahr .
