Ntcheu is a city in the central region of Malawi with 21,241 inhabitants (as of 2018).

It is the capital of the district of the same name , which has an area of ​​3424 km² and 370,757 inhabitants (2003). Ntcheu is in the highlands of Dedza , halfway on the road from Blantyre to Lilongwe .

population

Many of the people living here are Ngoni from today's South Africa . They were expelled here as part of the Mfecane by the wars of the Zulu chief Shaka (1787–1828).

economy

As in the Dedza region, the people here make a living from growing potatoes, but also from cabbage and tomatoes. They sell this fruit on the street. The city gets its drinking water (partly?) From a valley near Chiole .
