Nuʻulopa is a small uninhabited island in the Apolima Strait of Samoa . Administratively it belongs to the Aiga-i-le-Tai district .
geography
Nu'ulopa reaches a height of about 50 m . The island is based on a submarine ridge between Upolu and Savaiʻi . The rocky island has some coconut palms ( Cocos nucifera ) and is a sanctuary for fruit bats and sea turtles . In 2006 Nu'ulopa was entered on the tentative list of Samoa with the two neighboring islands of Manono and Apolima as a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage .
Nu'ulopa also serves as a cemetery for the chiefs ( matai ) of Manono.
climate
The climate is tropical hot, but is tempered by constantly blowing winds. Like the other islands of Samoa, Nu'ulopa is occasionally hit by cyclones .
