Nugesha Gagnidze ( Georgian ნუგეშა გაგნიძე ; * 1966 in Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic , Soviet Union ) is a Georgian Germanist and translator . She is a professor for German literature at Akaki Tsereteli University in Kutaisi .

life and work

Gagnidze studied history and German in Kutaisi. At the Ivane Javakhishvili University in Tbilisi she received her doctorate with a thesis on "Sentimentalism and Goethe's novel The Sorrows of Young Werther ". Gagnidze was a DAAD scholarship holder at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen .

Gagnidze is a full professor at the Department of German Philology - Faculty of Humanities at Kutaisi University. She works scientifically in the field of German classical music , Friedrich Nietzsche and authors of the 20th century.

Her publications include monographs and scientific works on German authors such as Lessing, Goethe, Schiller, Nietzsche, Franz Kafka, Bertolt Brecht, Stefan George, Georg Heim, Georg Trakl, Gottfried Benn, Ingeborg Bachmann, Krista Wolf, Alfred Döblin, Klemens Eich , Heinrich Julius Klaproth as well as (German-) Georgian writers such as Sulchan-Saba Orbeliani , Wascha-Pschawela , Grigol Robakidse , Giwi Margwelaschwili and Nino Harativili .

Gagnidze founded the SIE club “Kutaisi-Colchis” in 2013 and was chairwoman of the club “Women for the Development of the Regions” from 2015-2016. She is a member of the Thomas Mann Society in Düsseldorf and the Goethe Societies in Weimar and Kutaisi. Gagnidze looks after the partnership between the PASCH schools Elisabeth-von-Thadden-Schule in Heidelberg and the first public "Akaki-Tsereteli" school in Kutaisi.
