The Akaki Tsereteli State University of Kutaisi , Kutaisi University for short , ( Georgian აკაკი წერეთლის სახელობის სახელმწიფო უნივერსიტეტი ; English Akaki Tsereteli State University ) is a university founded in 1930 in Kutaisi , the second largest city in Georgia and the capital of the Imereti region .

The university was established in 1930 as part of the University of Tbilisi in Tbilisi founded. In 1933 it was relocated to Kutaisi as Kutaisi University . In 1990 the university was renamed Akaki Tsereteli University Kutaisi , named after the poet Akaki Tsereteli . On February 23, 2006, the university was merged with the Nikolos Muschelishvili Technical University of Kutaisi and continued as Akaki Tsereteli University of Kutaisi.
