Life

He came from an elegant Romanesque family in Trier. The father is an Optardus ex genere senatorum who was mentioned in the first half of the 7th century. His brother was the holy abbot Germanus. Like his brother, he was initially a monk.

He succeeded Modoald as bishop in Trier. During his episcopate he particularly promoted the Iro-Franconian monasticism. As Bishop of Trier he appears in 645/47 in the founding deed of the Cugnon monastery near Bouillon . A short time later he was involved in the establishment of the double monastery of Stablo and Malmedy . In his time, the foundation of the monastery Galilee falls in Toul by Deodatus of Nevers . Around the year 670 he issued the Numerian privilege to the monastery of St. Die in the diocese of Toul . King Sigibert III. he is said to have served as an advisor. In Trier itself he had a strong influence on monastic life. So in his time the clerical community of St. Maximin was transformed into a monastery. The women's monastery of St. Maria, later the monastery of St. Irminen / Oeren, was founded in the city's late Roman warehouses . The Church of St. Helena in yours should also go back to him.

After his death, his bones were probably moved by Archbishop Udo to St. Helena in Euren in 1075 .
