Nuno da Cunha (* 1487 ; † March 5, 1539 ) was a Portuguese navigator.

He followed his father Tristão da Cunha to India and later to Rome . He was finance minister when Johann III. appointed him Governor General of India in 1528 . Cunha seized Mombasas , imposed a new tribute on the king and crossed the coast of Malabar .

His attempt to take Diu failed. On the other hand, he built a fortress near Diu in 1535, won the city through cunning and secured this power through his moderation towards the inhabitants. Removed from office and recalled by his government, he died on the way home.
