Nuntebō with Manjisai as the tip

A Nuntebō [ nɯnteboː ] ( Japanese抜 手 棒, literally: pull-hand stick ) is an Okinawan Kobudō weapon.

description

The weapon consists of a Sai or a Manjisai , which was attached to a five Shaku (about 1.50 m) long .

history

The origin of the Nuntebo is unclear. It is said to have been used by the fishermen as a harpoon . Another opinion is that the weapon is already of Chinese origin. However, there is little evidence of this. It is more likely that the technique for guiding the weapon was partly adopted by Chinese spearmen , but the weapon itself is of Okinawan origin. This weapon is specially trained in Matayoshi-Kobudo.
