The Nutbush Creek is a stream in the northern US state of North Carolina . It has its source in the city of Henderson in Vance County and flows north. Before a dam was built in the early 1950s, the stream flowed into the Roanoke River about 30 km as the crow flies from its source in Virginia . Since then, the flooded valley of Nutbush Creek has formed an arm of the John H. Kerr Reservoir that extends far into North Carolina . The stream itself flows into this reservoir after around six kilometers.
The brook got its name from the numerous hazelnut bushes that once grew there . The Nutbush Creek in turn gave the name to an ancient geological fault , the Nutbush Creek Fault . This north-south fault zone is approximately 200 km long and extends as far as Virginia.
