Nvidia GeForce Go

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

GeForce Go is a brand name of the Nvidia company and denotes graphics processors for notebooks. The GeForce Go GPUs are derived from the desktop GPUs of the GeForce series , but have some special features to save power. These GPUs are also usually clocked more slowly and / or have fewer pipelines than their sister models with the same model number from the desktop area. Some entry-level models (e.g. GeForce Go 6100/6150) are integrated in the chipset of the motherboard ( Integrated Graphics Processor ).

With the GeForce Go, Nvidia competes with the Mobility Radeon series from competitor ATI .

Technical

As a graphics solution for notebooks, Nvidia is launching the GeForce Go line, which is characterized by lower heat generation and power saving functions compared to the desktop versions. Nvidia also developed the MXM interface for the graphics card slot, with which notebook graphics cards from different manufacturers can be easily exchanged. This slot is becoming more and more the standard that is already being used by many “small” graphics card manufacturers and now also by the largest Nvidia competitor ATI.

Legend:

  • Model - The marketing name for Nvidia's processor
  • Year - year of publication or time of availability of the model
  • GPU / Type - Designates the internal development designation of the graphics processor (GPU: "Graphics Processing Unit")
  • GPU / clock - chip clock: maximum clock of the GPU, as specified by Nvidia. Note: Some graphics card manufacturers use lower or higher clock frequencies; However, the maximum clock rate specified by Nvidia is always found here.
  • GPU / Fill Rate - denotes the maximum theoretical fill rate.
  • Memory / Clock - maximum memory clock as specified by Nvidia. Note: Some graphics card manufacturers use lower or higher clock frequencies; However, the maximum clock rate specified by Nvidia is always found here.
  • Memory / Size - Lists the size of the graphics memory in MB .
s So-called “shared memory” or “Turbo Cache” describes the ability of the graphics card to use the main memory of the computer as (possibly additional) graphics memory.
  • Memory / Type - Provides information about the memory type and the bus connection of the graphics memory to the GPU.
  • Bandwidth - This means the bandwidth to the dedicated storage. The bandwidth to the main memory that can be accessed via Turbo Cache is relatively small and is not specified here.
