Nvidia nForce4
nForce4 is a family of PC chipsets from Nvidia for AMD's K8 and AMD's K9 processors as well as Intel's P4 processors .

The nForce4 is the first chipset with support for PCI-Express and was introduced in August 2004. In principle it is still an nForce3 Ultra , only with PCI Express instead of AGP. However, the SATA controller has been improved and now offers four SATA ports based on the SATA-II standard (except nForce4-4x).
Models
There are the following variants:
- nForce4-4x
- nForce4 Ultra
- nForce4 SLI
- nForce4 SLI x16
nForce4-4x , nForce4 Ultra and nForce4 SLI all have 20 PCIe lanes, but Nvidia only allows the use of the in-house multi-GPU technology SLI and SATA II with the nForce4 Ultra and nForce4 SLI only with the nForce4 SLI. However, this is a pure marketing decision, because technically all variants are presumably identical. All nForce4 chipsets can be made SATA-II and SLI-capable by connecting the appropriate resistor pads (with a soldering iron or conductive paint pen ). The nForce4 SLI has two PEG slots, each with 8 PCIe lanes. The nForce4 SLI x16 then doubles this PCIe lane to 16 each and now offers a total of 38 PCIe lanes. For this purpose, the additional C51 chip, a HyperTransport tunnel with additional 18 PCIe lanes, is placed between the HyperTransport link of the CPU and the nForce4 MCP.
