The Nyayo National Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Nairobi , Kenya . It is mainly used for football matches in the Kenyan league, where the AFC Leopards plays most of its home games. The stadium also has a gym, a 50-meter swimming pool and playing fields for handball and volleyball .
In 2005 at least one person was trampled to death in the World Cup qualifier between Kenya and Morocco . The FIFA locked the Nyayo National Stadium then for two years for international football matches. Slide capacity has been reduced from 35,000 to 25,000. In October 2010, a league game between the AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia broke out in a mass panic in which several people were killed and at least 30 people were injured.
In August 2019, the Kenyan National Athletics Championships were held in the stadium.
