Fettercairn ( Gaelic : Fothair Chàrdainn ) is a Scottish village in the Council Area Aberdeenshire . It is located in the traditional county of Kincardineshire about 14 miles southwest of Stonehaven and 14 miles northeast of Montrose .
history
To the northeast of the village there is a Neolithic or Bronze Age mound . He is just like the nearby mansion Fettercairn House , the John Middleton, 1st Earl of Middleton was built in 1666, listed building. To the north is Fasque House , the seat of the Gladstone family , the best known member of which is former British Prime Minister William Gladstone . The Tower House Balbegno Castle to the southwest is older . The neo-Gothic Fettercairn Parish Church was built in 1804. The Fettercairn whiskey distillery , which is still active today, opened 20 years later . An arch commemorates the visit of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in September 1861.
In 1881 398 people lived in Fettercairn. 90 years later there were still 281 inhabitants.
