Fontana della Ninfa at the city gate

The Nymphs Fountain in Castelvetrano ( Italian Fontana della Ninfa ) is a Baroque ornamental fountain in the old town of Castelvetrano in western Sicily . It is a rare specimen with four vertically stacked basins supported by putti and mermaids . The work of architects and urban architect Vincenzo La Barbera from 1615 is at the southwest corner of the first house of Via Filippo Cordova at the Piazza Umberto I attached. The fountain is a listed building.

The well was designed to bring the water from the Bigini spring into the city. The water outlet is 10 meters high. A marble nymph, which is placed at the top, sits on a rock and holds an amphora in her right hand, from which the water falls one after the other into four, one below the other, increasingly larger basins. At the top is a stylized palm tree, the symbol of the city. The Latin inscription "Palmosa civitas castrum vetranum" is carved in sandstone on the ledge. Above the bottom basin is a marble slab with the name of the then King of Spain, Philip III. and the date of construction attached.
