The O'Shannassy River is a river in the south of the Australian state of Victoria and a tributary of the Yarra River .

It rises on the southern slopes of Mount Observation in the Yarra Ranges National Park , part of the Great Dividing Range , about 80 kilometers east of Melbourne . From there it flows south to the O'Shannassy Reservoir , a reservoir that is part of Melbourne's water supply. At the foot of the dam it continues its course to the south and flows into the Yarra River between Warburton and McMahons Creek .

The catchment area of ​​the O'Shannassy River is designated by the Land Conservation Council as an important, natural catchment area.

Surname

The river is named after John O'Shannassy , Victoria's 2nd Prime Minister.
