The Oak Knoll Wildlife Sanctuary is a 51 acres (20.6 hectares ) comprehensive protected area in Attleboro in the state of Massachusetts of the United States . It is administered by the Massachusetts Audubon Society .
Protected area
The sanctuary on Lake Talaquega , only a few minutes' drive from the center of Attleboro , used to be a popular excursion destination and included a casino and a hotel. Today it is a retreat with wooden paths leading through a red maple swamp, wooded areas and freshwater marshland . There are 1.5 mi (2.4 km ) of walking trails available to visitors, and a former home dating from the mid-18th century has an exhibit on turtles and invertebrates naturally occurring in the area .
