The Ob 'Passage ( English , Russian Проход Обь Prochod Ob , German ' Ob-Durchgang ' ) is a 600 m wide strait on the coast of the East Antarctic Queen Marie Land . It runs between Khmara Island and Mabus Point .
The discovery goes back to participants in the Australasian Antarctic Expedition (1911-1914) under the direction of the Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson . Soviet scientists mapped and named it in 1956. It is named after the research ship Ob . The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated this designation into English in 1961.
