Obama ficki is a large species of the Obama genus,which belongs to the land planarians . It occurs in Brazil .

features

Obama ficki is a large land planaria with a wide, flat, leaf-shaped body. O. ficki can reach a body length of 20 centimeters. The back side has a grayish-brown basic color and many fine, black points. The ventral side is colored orange.

Many of O. ficki's eyes are distributed over the first few centimeters of the body. Further eyes are on the middle back line.

distribution

The habitat of O. ficki is formed by humid forests in the northeast of Rio Grande do Sul and in the east of Santa Catarinas , in southern Brazil.

etymology

The name Obama is derived from the Tupi language that was spoken on the Atlantic coast of Brazil . It is a combination of the words oba ( German leaf ) and ma ( German animal ). This refers to the outer, leaf-like shape.

The type epithet ficki honors the zoologist Israel Alberto Fick , who contributed to the identification of various planarians .
