Hallerburg Castle (Lower Saxony)
Hallerburg Castle

The castle Haller Castle is an Outbound lowland castle in the district Haller castle of the municipality Nordstemmen in Lower Saxony . The castle, first mentioned in 1362, was destroyed in the Hildesheim collegiate feud in 1519 . It was not far from the Haller River . The remains of the foundation wall, which were still visible in 1969, were removed when a bypass road was built.

The Hallerburg was a fiefdom of the Bishop of Minden to the Guelph dukes in the Principality of Lüneburg . Its builder was probably Duke Wilhelm II of Braunschweig and Lüneburg . With this he wanted to win the rule over the rule of Adenoy . With the construction he also intended to win the county of Hallermund , of which he already belonged to the ideal half. In 1363 the castle was pledged to the lords of Knigge and von Ilten , who obliged Duke Wilhelm II to carry out construction work on the castle. In 1416, the Minden bishop Wulbrand von Hallermund finally enfeoffed the dukes of Braunschweig-Lüneburg with the castle. From 1433, the Hildesheim bishops were pledges of the castle, which they pledged to various nobles, such as von Homburg, von Saldern , Bock von Wülfingen , von Cramm , von Reden and von Alten . Around 1500 Hallerburg Castle is mentioned among the castles in the Hildesheim Monastery. The last pledge holder before the destruction in 1519 was the Bishop of Hildesheim.
