Upper Austrian Journalism Academy

The Upper Austrian Journalism Academy is the second largest training and further education institution for journalism and PR in Austria . It is supported by the most important media houses in Upper Austria ( OÖ Nachrichten , Neues Volksblatt , Oberösterreichische Rundschau , Krone Oberösterreich ) and the Bildungshaus Schloss Puchberg. In addition to the basic and advanced training courses, the academy and its teaching staff offer a training model for young journalists. Five aspirants are employed by the academy for two years each and during this time they complete internships at the daily newspaper editorial offices in Upper Austria and the press offices of Energie AG and Raiffeisen Landesbank .

The academy was founded in 1989 by Rundschau editor-in-chief Rudolf Chmelir and Eduard Ploier, who was then head of the educational center at Schloss Puchberg, as “OÖ. Journalist School ”founded. The aim was to offer practice-oriented training for young professionals. The first basic course was offered in 1990 - due to the strong demand, the range of courses was further expanded in the following years and the journalism school was renamed "Upper Austrian Journalist Academy" in 1996. Since then, in addition to two annual basic courses for young professionals and advanced training seminars for journalists and PR people, the teaching editorial team and the annual MediaForum have been offered. In 2008 the original membership structure of the supporting association of the journalists' academy with Rundschau and Bildungshaus Schloss Puchberg around the three daily newspapers of Upper Austria - OÖN, OÖ. Krone and Volksblatt - expanded. Rudolf Chmelir has been the director of the academy since it was founded. In January 2010, the management was transferred to his son Wolfgang Chmelir based on a unanimous decision of the board of directors.
