Architecture and history

The first documented mention of the Upper Mill is from 1453. Of originally at least twelve watermills in Blankenburg and the surrounding area, the Obere Mühle is one of only two remaining mills, along with the Münzmühle . The Obere Mühle is visible from afar due to its high location. It was driven by the artificially created Mühlbach . Around 1717 a baroque mill property was referred to as a stately mill. Modifications to the grinder were then carried out until the 19th century, in 1855 a water turbine was installed . As a pure flour mill, it remained in operation until 1928. The two-storey mill house is built in half-timbered construction, partly boarded up vertically and covered with a hipped roof.

Around the beginning of the 21st century, the mill was renovated. It is currently used in gastronomy.

In the local register of monuments , the mill is registered as a monument under registration number 094 25257 .
