The pond seen from the dam |
The Obere Eschenbacher Teich is an artificial pond east of the Clausthal-Zellerfeld district of Clausthal in the Upper Harz .
It belongs to the Upper Harz ponds and was a reservoir that served to supply water and to store water for the ore mines in the area. It was built by miners from Upper Harz in the middle of the 16th century, and the dam was later expanded to its current size. Its storage volume is max. 62,000 m³ and its dam is around 10.5 meters high. It was also known as Neuer Eschenbacher Teich.
Above the Upper Eschenbacher Pond there are still remains of a dam from a former reservoir, which is now called the Little Prince Pond . Below is the Lower Eschenbacher pond . All structures are part of the Upper Harz water shelf and thus belong to the World Heritage Site ore mine Rammelsberg, the old town of Goslar and the Upper Harz water management .
