The Obere Rotgüldensee is a mountain lake in the Ankogel group in the east of the Hohe Tauern .
The circular upper lake is at an altitude of 1996 m above sea level. A. and is fed by the Karen on the northern slope of the Großer Hafner ( 3076 m ) (Wildes-Wagendrischl- and Haderling-Kar). Between the two Karen (leading from the Wastelkarscharte 2720 m ) is a north-south distance trail down of the Drava and Maltatal with the upper Murtalbahn connects. The lake is designated as a natural monument ( list entry ). The elongated Lower Rotgüldensee lies under the breakthrough between transverse rock sills at an altitude of 1733 m .
