The branch church of St. Stephanus

The parish village of Obergrafendorf is located at an altitude of 366 meters in the Kollbach valley, about halfway between Roßbach and Arnstorf on the 2115 state road.

It probably got its name just like the village Untergrafendorf from the noble family de Grauendorf or Gravindorf (Grafendorf). In 1227 Passau Bishop Gebhard I. von Plain donated the old parish to his cathedral chapter . Obergrafendorf belonged to the municipality of Thanndorf. With the incorporation of Thanndorfs to Münchsdorf on January 1, 1972, Obergrafendorf also changed its affiliation. With the dissolution of the municipality of Münchsdorf, Obergrafendorf came to the municipality of Roßbach in the course of the municipality reform.

The former parish church of St. Stephanus has been a subsidiary church of the parish of Münchsdorf since the parish seat was moved to Münchsdorf in 1977 . The late Gothic building from the 15th century was raised and lengthened in 1863. A slatted vault with a rib configuration was installed in the church. Another restoration followed in 1898.

The decor is neo-Gothic with some Gothic elements. In the vestibule, in the small neo-Gothic altar, there is a late Gothic wooden relief around 1480 with the crucifixion of Christ. The two wooden figures with the apostle John and St. Leonhard are works from the middle of the 15th century. The relief in the predella of the south side altar with the Lamentation of Christ dates from around 1480 to 1490.

There is a separate cemetery by the church. The Obergrafendorf volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1906/1907. The current fire station was built in 1973.
