Oberhafenkanal
The Oberhafenkanal is a canal between the Hamburg districts of Rothenburgsort and HafenCity , which connects the Norderelbe with the Oberhafen .
The canal branches off from the Norderelbe at km 618.7 in a north-westerly direction ( Lage ). Immediately afterwards, on the right-hand side, there is the entrance to the former hook basin . Both together limit the Elbpark Entenwerder to the west. The Oberhafenkanal then crosses under the Billhorner Bridge along the federal roads 4 and 75 . Then the water surface widens on the right side to the Billhafen. Three bridges cross here: first those of the Harburg S-Bahn , then two of the southern freight bypass line , which connects here to the Wanne-Eickel-Hamburg line both in the direction of Hamburg Central Station and in the south.
According to ATKIS -Basis- DLM , the Oberhafenkanal ends at the S-Bahn bridge after 600 meters and merges into the Oberhafen ( location ). The official map of the city of Hamburg, on the other hand, allows the canal to continue about 600 meters before it ends at the Hamburg wholesale market ( location ), so that, according to this definition, it is twice as long and extends into the Hammerbrook district . The Bille flows into this extended part with Billhafen at the Brandshof lock .
The Oberhafenkanal is part of the port area of the Port of Hamburg . It is part of the tidal port and during the low tide falls dry over a large area at its edges.
