location

Oberkessach lies in the valley of the Kessach , a right tributary of the Jagst . The place and the district are located in the northern part of the Hohenlohekreis . The district borders on the Neckar-Odenwald district and the Heilbronn district . The Upper German-Raetian Limes also leads through the district .

history

The place was first mentioned in 976 as Chessaha. In 1480 it became the property of the Schöntal monastery . At the beginning of the Peasant War in 1525, the place was almost completely burned down; In 1634 the plague raged . In 1782 the Catholic parish church of St. Johannes was expanded and expanded, the last renovation of the church took place in 1958. On March 1, 1972, the place was incorporated into the community of Schöntal.

The village development was carried out in Oberkessach. The townscape could be improved significantly. Due to severe flood damage from the Kessach in December 1993, renovation work had to be carried out. Due to the convenient location to the federal highway 81 (5 kilometers to the junction Osterburken ), a large industrial area was designated. Several new development areas were also developed. Alongside Bieringen and Westernhausen, the place is now one of the largest villages in the Schöntal community.
