history
Westernhausen was first mentioned in a document in 1225. In 1647 it was completely burned down by the French except for 18 buildings. From the 14th century a family of lower nobility from Westernhausen is known. Small remains of a medieval castle can be found in the lower village, including the stone castle. In 1406 a women's convent of the 3rd order is mentioned by St. Francis . The parish church of St. Martin is first mentioned in 1225. The current nave and the elevation of the tower were built and assigned in 1744. The Stein ruins are located in Westernhausen - the remains of a stone castle from the 14th century. This ruin was hidden under wood for several centuries. During the Second World War, Westernhausen was partly badly damaged. The place developed very strongly in the post-war period . On the occasion of the community reform, Westernhausen merged with seven other localities on March 1, 1972 to form the community of Schöntal.
