Krefeld trolleybus
The Krefeld trolleybus was the trolleybus system of the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Krefeld . It existed from December 3, 1949 to May 29, 1964 and - like the Krefeld tram, which had been in service since 1883 - was operated by Krefeld Verkehrs-AG (KREVAG). The trolleybus was replaced by omnibuses after its closure . The operating voltage was 650 volts.
history
The trolleybus supplemented the tram and ran on a single 4.13 kilometer route from Krefeld main station via Breite Strasse, Marktstrasse and Forstwaldstrasse to the level crossing in Benrad . The trolleybus line 19 used on this route replaced the much sought-after bus line S.
Originally it was planned to run the trolleybus across the railway to Forstwald and Anrath , but the German Federal Railroad forbade a crossing of its Duisburg-Ruhrort-Mönchengladbach line . An extension to the Oppum district at the other end of the route could not be realized either.
vehicles
Three solo cars were available for the Krefeld trolleybus :
number | Manufacturer | Electrics | Type | Construction year | Whereabouts |
---|---|---|---|---|---|

502 | Uerdingen wagon factory | AEG | K1907 | 1950 | Scrapped in 1963 |
503 | Uerdingen / Henschel wagon factory | AEG | ÜHIIIs | 1953 | 1964 sold to the Kapfenberg trolleybus , where it was used with the new number 19 until 1972 |
In addition, there was a trailer with the number 551, also manufactured in 1949 by the Uerdingen wagon factory. This was mostly used behind buses and was scrapped in 1962.
