The district of Ober Maßfeld is located in the Werra Valley and is western neighbor of the partner village Grimmenthal and is south of Meiningen . The federal autobahn 71 and the federal highway 89 open up this area for traffic.

history

The first documentary mention of Ober Maßfeld is given by Dobecker around 1146. But the place assumes 837. The place belonged to the Amt of Maßfeld in the county of Henneberg -Schleusingen. In 1680 he came to the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen .

Ober Maßfeld was persecuted by witches from 1602 to 1658: five women were involved in witch trials, four were executed. The first victim was Margaretha Stahl (also: Stahlmart, Martha Herbert, called "Thal Martha").
