Senior seaman was the second lowest rank of the rank group of the men in the People's Navy of the former National People's Army (NVA) of the German Democratic Republic , which corresponds to the rank of " Hauptgefreiter " (OR-2) of the Bundeswehr . In the other NVA armed forces, the rank of corporal (OR-3) was equal to this nautical rank of "staff sailor " .
