Oberpostdirektion (Königsberg)
The building of the former Oberpostdirektion at ul. Grekowa 1 (formerly Hansaring ) in Kaliningrad now serves as the headquarters of the staff of the Baltic Fleet of Russia. The neoclassical building is a listed building.
Location and surroundings
The former Oberpostdirektion is located at the Hansaring in Mittelhufen . The development in Mittelhufen had different buildings in the historic Königsberg. In the north were the neo-baroque district and regional court and the neoclassical Oberpostdirektion, in the west the neoclassical Neue Schauspielhaus (today: Dramatheater Kaliningrad) and in the south the Prussian State Archive , built in the style of Neue Sachlichkeit , which is now used as a library .

The building was designed in the neoclassical style from 1916 (according to other sources, from 1918 to 1924).
The floor plan is an elongated rectangle . The building complex has four wings, the four wings are grouped around an inner courtyard. The house with basement has four floors. Below is a heavy basement on which two main floors rest, the high windows of which are combined into one element. A third floor with smaller windows rises above it. The main front to the Hansaring shows a three-storey portico with six Ionic columns and a classically shaped gable . A monumental portico of this size did not previously exist in the city. The building of the former Königsberger Oberpostdirektion is one of the few structures in today's Kaliningrad, which despite heavy destruction, u. a. if the right half of the gable collapsed, most of it could be reconstructed.
