The Prussian State Archive in Königsberg was located in Königsberg (Prussia) until 1945 .

history

For centuries, the Königsberg State Archive was housed in the oldest part of the Königsberg Castle , the western north wing. Some of the files were in sturdy oak drawers from the time of the order.

After the University Library of Strasbourg burned out during the German siege in the Franco-Prussian War in 1870, the Prussian State Archives (like many other German institutions) helped with the refurbishment. It left 70,000 duplicates to the library .

From 1929 to 1930, government building officer Robert Liebenthal built a new building for the state archive at Hansaring 31 on the Hufen (Königsberg) in the New Objectivity style. The building is still preserved today and is used as a district library.

The last archive director was Max Hein . The most valuable files could be outsourced in good time. After the war they were initially in the Göttingen State Archive Camp under the direction of Kurt Forstreuter . 85% saved, they have been in XX since 1978. Main department in the Secret State Archive of Prussian Cultural Heritage in Berlin.
