Dieter Heckmann (archivist)

Dieter Heckmann (born June 22, 1955 in Neunkirchen ) is a German archivist and historian . His research focuses on the urban and regional history of Prussia , Livonia , Lorraine and Silesia , palaeography , the conventional and digital edition of historical sources and other historical auxiliary sciences .

Scientific career

After studying history and Romance studies at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken and the Jean Monnet Saint-Étienne University , which he graduated with the first state examination, he was awarded a doctorate in 1986 in Saarbrücken with a study on the city history of medieval Metz. phil. PhD in Medieval History . After two traineeships, each of which he completed with the second state examination, he has been working as an archivist at the Secret State Archive of Prussian Cultural Heritage since 1989 .

For many years he is the secretary and board member of the Historical Commission for East and West Prussian State Research , editor of the publications from the Archives of Prussian Cultural Heritage (2002-2020) and the Prussian Yearbook , member of the Baltic Historical Commission , the International Historical Commission for Research on the Teutonic Order , of the Hanseatic History Society and several other history societies. There is a close scientific exchange with Towarzystwo Naukowe w Toruniu . On a voluntary basis, he has published around 450 transcriptions in the Virtual Prussian Document Book and looks after the parish archives of the Maria Meeresstern community in Werder (Havel) .
