Oberwinkel (desert)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oberwinkel is a deserted village in the district of hostage Winder hamlet Ebersbrunn in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen . The village was deserted as early as the 15th century. Climate changes probably led to the abandonment of the settlement.

Geographical location

The exact localization of the desert location proves to be difficult. Probably the settlement was in the northeastern district Ebersbrunner in the corridor and forest location of fire. Two block walls, which are now under the forest, may indicate the desert. In this case, there would be a large ridge of the Steigerwald in the immediate vicinity of Oberwinkel , on which there are no settlements. Perhaps the Winkelhof in the area of Ebrach in the Bamberg district refers to the settlement.

history

The first and only mention of Oberwinkel was in the 15th century. On April 23, 1420, Eberhard von Thüngfeld exchanged the so-called Schloss Winkel and the neighboring settlement of Oberwinkel with all goods. The recipient was Eberhard's cousin, Heinz von Thüngfeld zu Schönbach . The village was probably an allod of the Lords of Thüngfeld and at that time had been desolate for a long time.

Unlike many other desert areas in what is now the Kitzingen district, Oberwinkel was abandoned due to a deterioration in the climate. Between 1310 and 1350, as well as between 1430 and 1480, several extreme weather conditions have been proven for the Steigerwald, so that between 1433 and 1438 there was also a famine . Frequently, several rainy summers in a row caused the agricultural productivity of the agricultural areas to drop extremely. Villages were abandoned. In addition to Oberwinkel, this also applied to the villages of Crautzach and Fuchsstatt .
