history

The stadium of Obolon Kiev

The FC Obolon Kiev was founded in 1992 under the name FC Zmina (German: FC New Generation). Just one year later, in 1993, the club renamed itself FC Zmina-Obolon . Over the next few years, the company was renamed FC Obolon and FC Obolon-PPO . In 1999 the club then took on its current name, Obolon Kiev .

Obolon Kiev played in the highest Ukrainian league, the Premjer-Liha . At the beginning of its existence, however, Obolon was in the third Ukrainian league, the Druha Liha . In the 1998/99 season the club succeeded for the first time in the second Ukrainian league ( Perscha Liha ), when the team was able to rise to the Persha-Liha together with Zakarpattia Uzhhorod and the now dissolved SK Odessa. In the Persha-Liha, however, the team was third from bottom and immediately relegated. Back in the third division, Obolon played again successfully and once again made it to the second division, this time together with Polissya Zhytomyr and Naftowyk-Ukrnafta Ochtyrka . This time Obolon Kiev played in the second division and the club achieved their first promotion to the Premjer-Liha by placing third behind Wolyn Lutsk and Chornomorez Odessa . After three years of first class, however, relegation followed again, but after another four years in the second division Obolon rose again in 2009 by a second place in the Persha Liha behind Zakarpattia Uzhhorod in the Premjer Liha. A year later, in the 2009/10 season, Obolon Kiev also reached the quarter-finals of the national cup competition , where the team failed 4-0 at the eventual cup winner Tawrija Simferopol . After a 15th place in the Premjer-Liha 2011/12 Obolon had to make his way to the second division .
