List of members of the Styrian Landtag (IV legislative period)
This list of MPs to the Styrian Landtag (IV legislative period) lists all MPs to the Styrian Landtag in the IV legislative period from March 18, 1957 to April 11, 1961. After the state elections in 1957 , the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) had 24 members, gaining three seats compared to the state elections in 1953, thus achieving its second-best result in the 2nd republic. Furthermore, the Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ) was represented with 21 mandataries in the state parliament, whereby the SPÖ had gained one more mandate. The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), on the other hand, only achieved three mandates, which meant the loss of three mandates from its predecessor party , the electoral party of the Independent (WdU). The Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) failed to re-enter the state parliament.
Functions
Landtag President
The functions of the 1st and 2nd President of the State Parliament remained unchanged compared to the previous period. Josef Wallner (ÖVP), who had already held this office between 1945 and 1949 and was re-elected President of the State Parliament in 1953, was confirmed as the 1st President of the State Parliament. Even Karl Operschall (SPO), who held the post of second state parliament president since 1952, was re-elected. The two state parliament presidents were unanimously elected in the constituent meeting on March 18, 1957. In the office of 3rd President of the State Parliament, Anton Stephan (FPÖ) replaced the previous 3rd President of the State Parliament, Franz Scheer (FPÖ). Stephan was only elected to his office on April 9th as he was still a member of the state government at the time of the constituent meeting. After the election of the state government, Krainer senior IV, he was elected in an open vote.
Folder and secretary
In the first parliamentary session, Artur Freunbichler (ÖVP), Franz Koller (ÖVP), Anton Afritsch (SPÖ) and Friedrich Hofmann (SPÖ) were elected secretaries. The function of files was taken over by MPs Peter Hirsch (ÖVP), Gerd Stepantschitz (ÖVP), Hans Brandl (SPÖ) and Vinzenz Lackner (SPÖ).
Member of the state parliament
The 56 state parliament mandates were awarded in four state electoral districts. These were the Landtag constituencies 1 (Graz and the surrounding area) , 2 (West and South Styria) , 3 (East Styria) and 4 (Upper Styria) . Of the 56 mandates, three mandates were awarded as mandates with residual votes (R).
