history

The Grind Market on the festival site (2010)

The festival was started in 1999 by Miroslav "Čurby" Urbanec, owner of the Obscene Productions record label and an online shop, rather by chance when his planned birthday party turned into an event with 40 bands. Around 1200 visitors were present at the first festival, in 2004 there were already 3000. Initially, only vegetarian dishes were offered at the festival , because founder Čurby is a vegan himself . In 2008 the limit of 5000 visitors was reached for the first time. For the tenth anniversary in 2009, the Obscene Extreme had to be relocated from the venue in Trutnov to Svojšice near Pardubice , known as “Na Bojišti” (in German: “On the battlefield”, the historical site of the Battle of Trautenau ) . The organizer was unable to refinance the costs of the festival solely from ticket and t-shirt sales. After renegotiations in autumn 2009, the Obscene Extreme has been taking place in Trutnov again since 2010. In 2011 a total of 69 bands performed over three days. In addition, a Freak Day was held for the first time with a tattoo and piercing show and various competitions. The Obscene Extreme has been presented by the British music magazine Terrorizer since 2008 . Since 2012, the organization Doctors Without Borders has been supported by the sale of a T-shirt as part of the festival .

After the 2012 festival, the organizers announced that in 2013 offshoots would be held in Mexico , Indonesia and Australia .
